CBD for Weight Loss: Can CBD Help You Lose Weight?

CBD affects the endocannabinoid system in our bodies. This system responds to different chemicals in our bodies through two cannabinoid (CB) receptors, called the CB1 and CB2 receptors. CB1 receptors are most dense in the brain and the central nervous system, but in people with obesity, CB1 receptors are found to be more widespread, especially in fatty tissue. Studies have shown that CBD can help reduce obesity by blocking off these CB1 receptors.
Another reason CBD oil could be used for weight loss is that it may suppress your appetite. Cannabis is commonly known to increase your appetite, known to most as getting “the munchies.” But this is strictly a side-effect of THC, as it stimulates the CB1 receptor, which releases a hormone that increases food intake. However, the same effect does not exist with CBD, and may act the opposite way by blocking the CB1 receptor, which could lead to appetite suppression.
Some studies also claim that CBD can turn white fat cells (or “bad” fat) into brown fat cells. Brown fat cells are a more active form of fat, since they burn off energy as heat, meaning they burn calories. While more studies on humans are needed to definitively draw conclusions about CBD’s potential effects on weight loss, it is looking promising since there is more than one way it can help!
